Between Don and myself we have a combined almost 50 years experience together.
You are in good hands.
Don was instrumental in the development of all of products you see and are about
to see on the web-site.
Common sense and high level education are a beautiful thing. If you ever call,
Say hi to Don. Nice guy.
NAME: DONALD A. IMLAH
EDUCATION & WORK HISTORY: I'm gonna breeze thru this quickly, so pay attention. (I'm not a bragger.) I began tinkering with small engines early. I took all the mechanical classes offered at high school. After graduation, I pursued a career in aircraft mechanics. I became fully certified as a powerplant and airframe technician with a helicopter specialty. Later as the bottom fell out of that occupation, I went to work at the local dealerships and became certified to work with snowmobiles, outboards, atv, motorcycles, etc.... The internal combustion engine must be in my gene pool. ( What I mean by that is this... Go ask your accountant to adjust a set of points. ) I also did a short stint for a company in the research and development department. Here I was able to hone my skills from imagination to reality. I then became a mechanic for Ken.
Here the fun begins....
We do the usual maintenance, repairs and upgrades to motorcycles, atvs & unfortunately snowmobiles. ( Have to keep the lights on. ) Since overhead is always an issue in small businesses. We pay attention to details no matter how small. You can't overlook the small stuff. Yet we also recognize that the customer has at times a budget to stick too. Options are offered not corner-cutting. This has been our number one goal. Honesty.
RACING:
PERSONAL BIKES: I had Honda 450 Scrambler. ( Starter bike. ) Had a Yamaha Maxim 550. Have a Honda 350. 1983 Yamaha 920 Midnight Virago.
" HEAVY D "
About time I build one for me. With all the work we do with customer motor builds, custom frames for others, transmissions and the list goes on and on. I always say, " Next year I will build something." And the year would pass by and the next and the next....... Well I'm building one for myself!
KEN INTERVIEWS DON:
QUESTION: What is your favorite movie? Any John Wayne movie. I am true American.
QUESTION: What is your favorite food? Any type of Mexican. And wash it down with a cold Corona. YEAH!
QUESTION: What is your favorite color? Pink oops... I mean blue. ( Many different levels though. )
QUESTION: Don, Being we are both family people, How do feel a stable home life affects your job performance? Because I don't need to be drunk and chasing women till the wee hours. I have a family that encourages me, supports me, and relies on me to do the best job I can.
QUESTION: That do you think about the Honda sohc 750 motor? I think its a motor that to this day, does not get the credit it deserves. Their are untapped possibilities locked within' those motors. Much more reliable than you think. Most problems that I have seen with them is that routine maintenance was not followed as it should.
QUESTION: What do you think about back pressure, velocity, straight pipes etc... When it comes to the 4 stroke internal combustion engine? Very important. Your motor will run poorly if you think the " Bolts right on theory. " works every time. Don't forget ignition, carburetion, intake system, gearing... These to are affected by exhaust changes. ( Visit your local chat room. )
QUESTION: What do you think of velocity, pulses, intake signals, carb diameters, length of intake runners etc? When it comes to carburetion? What!.. Am I in school or something?
QUESTION: When a bike is running poorly, How do you approach each bike you are intending to diagnose? No matter what the bike, you must always start with the basic Power Triangle. Ignition + Compression + Fuel = Power. I have seen people spend hours scratching their head trying to over analyze a symptom. Go to the basics. It cuts out a lot of self torture.
QUESTION: What is your favorite oil for your hot-rod bikes? With me that's a very touchy subject. A motors output, dependability, the very life expectancy is in question with certain oils. Only use the best for your particular applications. ( Your motor will thank you. )
QUESTION: Don, Being you have extensive airplane background. Do you feel the urge to weld a airplane wing on a bike after watching O.C.C. on cable TV? I can make motorcycles fly!
